So, you’ve got your tattoo! Now what?

 Aftercare

After the tattoo, I will wash down your tattoo with soapy water and allow it to dry. Then, I will place a ‘second skin’ like plaster over it. This will trick your body into thinking you have a scab over the tattoo already so it won’t try to form one.

Leave this plaster on for 3 - 5 days. You can shower with it, but try not to get it soaked with water as this will make it come off faster.

Once the plaster is off, you will need to keep it moisturised for 2 weeks using either pure coconut oil, or a tattoo aftercare cream. The tattoo aftercare creams I recommend are Butterluxe, Tattoo Goo or Hustlebutter. Apply a thin layer of your chosen product on about 3-4 times a day. Go with the approach of little and often!

Please avoid the following for the next 2-3 weeks:

  • swimming or bubble baths

  • picking and scratching the tattoo

  • fake tan or sun beds

  • soaps, perfumes or heavy moisturisers on the tattoo area

  • extra tight clothing

  • direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time
